It has been some time since I shopped for an airsoft electric pistol, and it has been a goal of mine to create a comprehensive list of them. Most airsoft retailers carry only 1 or 2 brands, so comparison shopping is difficult.
*Update*
After a comprehensive research of the available models, I conclude that they are all more or less comparable in quality and have very similar price range (40-70$), if bought from an airsoft retailer. Most airsoft pistols shoot at 190-210 FPS with 0.2s, with the exception of VZ61, which has been reported to shoot as hot as 250-280 FPS with 0.2s.
In terms of the magazine capacity, all airsoft electric pistols are more or less equal, at around 28-36 BB with the exception of the SMGs - the MP7 has a 38 round magazine, and VZ61 has a 300 round high cap drum option.
All AEPs use a 7.2 volt rechargeable battery, at 450-500mAh. THey are all the same, with the exception of VZ61, which has been reported to have a shorter battery. Shorter batteries an be fit in most guns using spacers to fill the empty space.
In terms of hopup and accuracy, most airsoft pistols have medium accuracy and may suffer from hopup problems. Cyma CM.121-122 is a notable exception, as they improved their hopup from the early days of CM.030
Airsoft electric pistols have good durability, particularly due to their low FPS - there's simply not that much wear on the gears and the gearbox. Finding these guns online is difficult to say the least, and because of this, the prices have been climbing recently.
So, without further ado, I present to you the result of my research!

The submachine guns
Some real life personal defense weapons are too small to fit a full size airsoft gearbox. Therefore, a mini gearbox has been adapted to fit these guns. The ingenuity of design is evident in some safety features. The Well's R4 airsoft electric pistol MP7's battery is loaded through the front, and the gun would not let you put in a battery while it is not set on safety. The VZ61's detachable magazine allows the battery to be stored in the gun's handle!
